As an insurance company, VidaCaixa has set itself the goal of offering security and protection to individuals and society as a whole, with a focus on older people.
To address the needs of this group and seize the opportunities to improve their quality of life, VidaCaixa has a Committee of Independent Experts that regularly provides advice to the company in this area. This Committee analyses new developments and trends in active ageing, care, neuro-degenerative diseases and other possible improvements that can be applied to the products and services offered by the company.
Who sits on this Committee?
This committee comprises (from left to right): Jesús Rodrigo, CEO of the Spanish Alzheimer’s Confederation (CEAFA) and president of the Iberoamerican Alzheimer’s Federation (AIB); Dr Javier Yanguas, psychologist specialising in vulnerable groups and older people; Javier Valle, CEO of VidaCaixa; Dr Pilar Cañabate, head of the social work area at ACE Alzheimer Center Barcelona, and Pedro Cano, director of strategy, planning and organisation at the Sabadell Parc Taulí Health Corporation Consortium.
Protecting people with HIV
The life expectancy of people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is coming ever closer to that of the general population and the health systems now treat the disease as chronic.
Given this, VidaCaixa has become the first insurance company in Spain to update its insurance subscription policy to offer comprehensive coverage to customers who have HIV but who do not have any existing conditions and are in treatment. The insurance covers them in the event of total permanent disability, cancer, heart attack, serious illness or death. Customers are offered all these areas of cover at the standard rate with no surcharges or additional signing up processes.
This initiative forms part of the insurer’s aim to provide all of society with access to life insurance, removing the barriers to entry that still affect some people. It is a pioneering project and the result of teamwork between specialists doctors and reinsurance companies and it demonstrates the company's commitment to both society and the insurance sector, in which VidaCaixa is paving the way and actively contributing through industry associations.
Right to Oncological Forgetfulness
This right is another focus of VidaCaixa's work in the field of inclusion. Therefore, today we are improving the standards on oncological forgetfulness established in Spanish and European legislation. To better understand the needs of these patients and offer them higher value products, the company has an independent commission of experts specialized in oncological issues. This team will provide periodic advice on medical, diagnostic, and treatment developments, as well as the latest technological advances and how to prevent their occurrence and recurrences.
The commission will be composed of representatives from three associations, who will provide the patient's perspective, and two renowned medical experts who will complement the scientific advances aspect. This expert group includes: the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), the Josep Carreras Foundation Against Leukemia, and the Catalan Federation of Entities Against Cancer (FECEC), along with Dr. Manel Esteller, for his knowledge of hematological cancers, and Dr. Jesús Foncillas, an expert in solid cancers.
